Oscar Fernandez, Sommelier

Oscar Fernandez naturally gravitated to a career in food & beverage, as he always had a love for food and traveling. He studied Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management at Instituto Culinario de Mexico and gained experience working in kitchens in Mexico. After finishing his studies, Oscar packed his bags and moved to New York City to work at The Mark by Jean-Georges as a line cook. This experience ignited Oscar’s decision to work in hospitality, and he set his sights on The Little Nell. Oscar started as a back server at element 47 in 2014, then worked his way up to cocktail server, banquet caption, element 47 supervisor, Chair 9 supervisor, and finally his current role of sommelier. Oscar feels privileged to be a part of the esteemed wine program at The Little Nell, and says becoming a sommelier has been his greatest achievement in his career. He is currently a Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers and is taking the advanced exam this November. During his time off from work, Oscar enjoys traveling the world and meeting new people, learning new cultures and tasting different dishes and wines from various regions.
