joined The Nell’s distinguished team of sommeliers in late 2015, shortly after taking his Level and Level II exams with the Court of Master Sommeliers, earning an impressive result on the certified exam with the highest score in his class.Prior to being appointed Assistant Sommelier at element 47, Erik worked at Ajax Tavern at The Little Nell as a server and bartender where he gained much experience on the floor and knowledge about wine, which led to his pursuit to become a sommelier. Originally from Pennsylvania, Erik grew up in and around Philadelphia, graduating from Temple University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2013. Erik worked his way through college as a server at the fast-paced Del Frisco’s Steakhouse, where he learned the ins and outs of the restaurant business. After college, ready to experience a new setting and new way of life, he sold his car and bought a one-way ticket to Aspen, having visited his aunt in nearby Carbondale over the years and being drawn to the area. When he arrived, she suggested he apply to work at The Nell, he was offered a position at Ajax Tavern, and the rest is history.
