Ingrid Stern is originally from Mexico City and always thought she would be a doctor, but shifted courses to pursue a career in cooking after helping her mom in the kitchen, who was a private chef. Ingrid realized how much she loved cooking for other people. In Mexico she worked as a sous chef for a catering company for four years, before being recruited at a job fair in Mexico by The Little Nell. Her first job was as a cook at the Sundeck in 2012, which led to joining the culinary team at Ajax Tavern after her first winter.

Ingrid’s favorite aspect of Ajax Tavern is that the menu is constantly changing. She has worked with four different head chefs at the restaurant and every season she has had the opportunity to learn new cooking techniques and create new dishes. In 2015, she was promoted to sous chef and has made it a priority to help develop new chefs and prepare them for a successful career in the restaurant industry. “People think I’m crazy to work somewhere so busy,” she says of working at Ajax Tavern, known for its popularity among locals and visitors alike. “Winter is crazy – there’s no other word for it. In the kitchen we have a saying – go big or go home.” In short, Ingrid loves working on a team as connected as the one at Ajax and seeing diners from the open kitchen enjoying their meals.
