Sous Chef, Chris "Gerber" Mathie
Chris "Gerber" Mathie began his culinary career as an apprentice for Chef Lane Warner at La Fonda in Santa Fe, NM, and embarked on a three-year apprenticeship that extended into seven years, culminating in reaching the title of Sous Chef at La Fonda. He decided to take his career to the next level and enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America, the world’s premier culinary college. Chris equated being a student with being his job and excelled as the elected group leader, considering himself a role model for his peers. After receiving an Associates of Occupational Studies: Culinary Arts in 2007 and graduating in 2009 with a Bachelors of Professional Studies, Chris pursued and was hired as a Cook for element 47. He climbed the ranks quickly, earning the title of A.M. Sous Chef at element 47, and ultimately landing Sous Chef at Ajax Tavern. In 2014, Chris put his culinary skills to the test on an episode of Food Network's Cutthroat Kitchen. The show features four chefs challenged to cook gourmet dishes to be judged by a guest celebrity, however contestants can purchase opportunities to sabotage each other or benefit themselves. Chris appeared on the episode titled “Ladle-ayheehoo,” and walked away a winner.
